Forgiveness

1. Title: How Does One Come Home (4474 words) by firelord65
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Star Wars - All Media Types, Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Rey/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren
Characters: Rey, Ben Solo | Kylo Ren
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Post-Canon, Kylo Ren Redemption, Dark Side Rey, Force Bond (Star Wars), Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Implied Character Death
Summary:Actions and consequences. Guilt and culpability. The galaxy bends to these forces just as easily as it does to determination and hope. Rey and Kylo Ren must confront their own demons. They cannot defeat the other’s for them.

Why I'm Reccing it and How it Pertains to the prompt: This fic starts with a lot of internal struggle on Kylo Ren’s part and I like that as the story progresses Rey’s influence on Kylo Ren not only gives fuel to his redemption, but she is a catalyst for Kylo Ren forgiving himself and no longer be the monster that he is. In the end, Kylo helps Rey forgive herself too, as she is carrying similar burdens.

2. Title: Almost Doesn't Count (1875 words) by marcasite
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Twelfth Doctor/Clara Oswin Oswald
Characters: Twelfth Doctor, Clara Oswin Oswald, Danny Pink
Additional Tags: Angst, Post-Kill The Moon, Not A Fix-It, Kissing
Summary:The silence swells between them and Clara feels the echo of loss. The loss of everything that was easy and comfortable between them, it has all turned to ashes and lay scattered at their feet. She is helpless and lost, determined and strong at the same moment.

Why I’m Reccing this: At this particular point in the series, Clara and Doctor part ways, but Clara never really wanted to. There is misunderstanding between them, and when he returns their tension starts to unravel, and I like how it seems that he’s back for her but not needing her, but he does it in a very Doctor way. I see this as Clara forgiving him after “Kill the Moon” and seeing that she never really meant to push him away in the first place.

3. Title: With Grace In Your Heart (3147 words) by Lapin
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Heroes - Fandom
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Edgar/Lydia (Heroes), Amanda & Lydia, Edgar & Amanda
Characters: Amanda Strazzula, Mrs. Comey, Edgar (Heroes), Lydia (Heroes), Carnies - Character
Additional Tags: Grief/Mourning, Acceptance, Moving On, Mother-Daughter Relationship
Summary:  Amanda just wants to know who her mom was, and Edgar holds all the answers. If only he would give them to her. But she's not the only one in mourning, and she's not the only one who loved Lydia.

Why I’m Reccing this: This is a great introspection piece with little known characters. I liked Amanda’s point of view here. She just wants to know her mother and the only person she can learn more about her is from someone who is ignoring her and ready to leave her - her late mother’s lover Edgar. She lashes out at him, and he starts to understand her, and she forgives him his silence as he confesses he loves her because she’s apart of her mom, and he would never leave her.

4. Title: Beginning of the End of a Beginning (1402 words) by PhoenixDragon
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Amy Pond - Relationship, mention of OCs - Relationship
Characters: Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Mentions of OCs
Additional Tags: Angst, Dark, Horror, Speculation, Introspection, Character Study, spoilers for 7.05, Surprise!Twist
Summary: Amy buried her husband of sixty plus years on a cold, blustery day that smelled of burning tires, hot oil and exhaust.

Why I’m reccing this: This is a great story on Amy and Rory back in the past, and being very forgiving of the situation - living in a time and world before they were born and acclimating to it. Amy doesn’t quite acclimate the way you think, and she forgives her situation like a companion would - by fighting it in her own way.

5. Title: The Worst Plan
Author: Vigs
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating: Teen
Characters: Martha, Ten
Summary: Takes place immediately after Family of Blood. Martha explains to the Doctor just how bad his plan was.
Why I’m reccing this: This fic could not fit this prompt more perfectly. The Doctor apologizes to Martha for getting her trapped in the past as a black woman and then as his behavior as John Smith. His apology isn’t taken so easily but it ends happily for them.

6. Title: What it Means to Care
Author: Left Handed Lemon
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Twelfth Doctor, River Song,
Pairings: 11/River, 12/Doctor
Rating: Teen
Summary:  "All I want is to know if you still care or if you don't. The truth. Regardless of what it might be. Because this uncertainty is far worse than anything you could throw my way."

Why I’m reccing this: The Doctor (Twelve) has an unusual way of showing affection to River, and she thinks he’s rejected her. Instead he shows her how he feels, and I think in a way, she shows acceptance (and forgiveness) in his behavior.

Cursed

7. Title: Tequila Sunrise (1818 words) by chantefable
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Rose Weasley
Characters: Draco Malfoy, Rose Weasley
Additional Tags: Romance, Character Study, Age Difference
Summary: Draco Malfoy's séjour on the island of Tenerife takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of a young English witch.

Why I Recced This: I recommended this based on Draco's thoughts of his desire for Rose, that his infatuation is a curse, and he wants so much for Rose to reciprocate and he hardly believes it for a moment when she does. More than anything I felt this fit the prompt because of Draco's internal struggle of wanting her.

8. Title:The Only One (5954 words) by Harlow R
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Azula (Avatar), Zuko (Avatar), Ursa (Avatar), Ozai (Avatar)
Summary: Azula has always been defined by her brother.

Why I recced this:
The way Azula's parents see Azula versus what she's expected to be, as well as her view of herself as the unreliable narrator makes it seem like Azula is cursed. It's all about perspectives here.

9. Title: Certain Dark Things (3176 words) by sinemoras09
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Avengers (2012)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Loki/Natasha Romanov, Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov
Characters: Loki (Marvel), Natasha Romanov
Additional Tags: Unrequited Love, Angst, Anonymous Sex, Loneliness, Hurt/Comfort
Summary: I love you as certain dark things are to be loved.

Why I recced This: A really harsh look into Loki's perspective on the Black Widow, how she is, and what they are like to each other as they come together and become more intimate. In the beginning it seems like Loki is the only one talking, making observations about the Black Widow in his own perception, and in her silence and demeanor it gives space to how Loki is himself, just as cursed as she is.

10. Title: Loneliness of the Warrior (2551 words) by eirenical
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sailor Moon - All Media Types, Code Name: Sailor V
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aino Minako | Sailor Venus/Hino Rei | Sailor Mars
Characters: Aino Minako | Sailor Venus, Hino Rei | Sailor Mars, Kino Makoto | Sailor Jupiter, Mizuno Ami | Sailor Mercury, Tsukino Usagi | Sailor Moon
Additional Tags: Female Relationships, Angst, Memories, Loneliness
Summary: "I have been the lone warrior at this gate since I was but a child. Aino Minako... Sailor V... You don’t corner the market on feeling alone."
Why I recced This: This is a great introspection piece on Minako Aino and how she sees herself compared to the other Sailor Guardians. She's a more seasoned warrior and when a battle goes awry she feels alienated and alone, almost cursed that she does feel so alone from them. Thankfully Rei is there to support her.

11. Title: Sjalfradr Means Freedom
Author: theladysifofasgard
Fandom: Thor
Characters: Lady Sif
Rating: K
Summary:  Sif was not only burdened with the jealously that seemed to poison her mind, but on top of this, she was constantly being pitied by her surrounding Asgardians. They pitied her.. How dare they! She is offered a chance for a fresh start, freedom, by the All-Father himself, and she takes it. One-sided Sif/Thor. Tumblr prompt.

Why I recced this: This is a great piece on Lady Sif's thoughts as Thor comes home with the imprisoned Loki, how things have changed since they had all grown up together, and how her jealousy towards Thor's attachment with Jane is her curse, and how even her friends see that she is heart broken by Thor's choice, a feeling she must live with and make well with it on her own.

12. Title: Physician, Heal Thyself
Author: Serendipity1
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Characters: Aang, Katara
Pairing: Aang/Katara
Rating: T
Summary:  Katara overextends a metaphor and under-appreciates her own needs. Still, life goes on. Katara/Aang.
Why I recced this: This is another good introspection piece on Katara. I see her curse here being in the way her empathy and willingness to help is a curse in itself. She is a healer of others, but does not always take care of her own needs and heal herself.

13. Title: I’m Going to Stop Pretending
Author: sinverguenza
Fandom: Heroes
Characters: Peter Petrelli, Claire Bennet
Pairing: Peter/Claire
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Incest, underage
Summary:  Peter Petrelli struggles against his less than familial feelings toward his niece.
Why I recced This: This is one of my all-time favorite stories for Peter and Claire in canon. This really explores how these two characters feel about each other and the growing sexual nature and taboo of their relationship. Their curse is that they are related, as they discover, and how to deal with it and their interactions within the family as well as their identities as people with special abilities. It's even more trying for Peter who has feelings for his niece that is underage.

Loss of Job / Income

14. Title: Critical Media Studies (1201 words) by zarabithia
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Runaways (2010) RPF, Actor RPF
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Dakota Fanning/Kristen Stewart
Characters: Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart, Elle Fanning
Additional Tags: Fluff, Sibling Bonding
Summary: Elle is the first person to call Dakota and ask if she is really going to quit acting.

Why I recced This: Simply put, Dakota’s sister Elle is worried about her in the media and thinks Dakota is quitting acting and joining a band after doing The Runaways. Dakota sets her sister straight.

15. Title: A Hope of Doubt
Author: luxken27
Fandom: Daria
Characters: Trent, Daria, Jane, Jesse
Pairing: Trent/Daria
Rating: K
Summary:  Post-canon. On the eve of the biggest performance of his life, Trent shares a special moment with Daria. Written for the Cotton Candy Bingo prompt key to heart.

Why I recced this: Not so much a single job loss, but a struggle here as Trent reflects on how his band went through some really low points of lack of productivity and how their music evolved over the years. They had been dropped by their label at one point and Trent had to pick himself back up and change the tone of his music. He also credits Daria for her inspiration to his motivation and his music.

[community profile] het_bigbang  reveals are out! Both of my artists got back to me about my artwork. The Mad Max author really liked it, and I am pleased. I'm going to pimp their works here because I DID read them to do the art and found them really good.

[Mad Max] My Blue Bucket of Gold by ninety6tears
Rated Explicit. Max/Furiosa, canon divergent.
Max returns to the Citadel to arrange an exchange of favors, but his end of a deal with Furiosa, as well as rising concern for the Dag’s struggles, proves to be much more than he bargained for. New beginnings promise healing, but some old habits are hard to wash out.

[Iron Man Movies] the bolder the lip by sandyk
Rated Explicit. Tony/Pepper, AU after Iron Man 2
Pepper said yes to going to Venice. The secret of Tony's success was to tell Pepper the truth, always.

And the story that wasn't finished but I did art for anyway has at least the first chapter up.

[Riverdale] Jughead and Betty's Epic Detour by Browneyesparker
Rated T. Betty/Jughead. AU
Jughead and Betty take the road trip that Archie and Jughead were supposed to take together. Title taken from "Roger and Amy's Epic Detour" by Morgan Matson but that's as far as it goes. Rated T.

I read a really good and HOT fic on KU yesterday. I haven't updated on Goodreads yet because there are two more stories in there to read as a bonus, but the fic was really good if you're into erotica and want something decent to read to get your jollies off. I'm not usually into romance/erotica but I liked the premise and I like to see what sells out there.

It's called: So. Toxic: a virgin, fake marriage by Kelley Harvey.

I have a small shameless addiction to fake marriage / marriage of convenience set ups and I always like to see how they play out. Even as a bonus, these characters are reunited childhood friends which is always adorable IMO. The pacing in this story is pretty fast, and the two characters are likable, even the "bad boy". The writing style is light and amusing, but no where near the juvenile ways of EL James. It can be contemporary at times, but the writing is done well enough that I didn't find it bad or obnoxious. The voice seemed modern enough and fit the characters, like I could picture it.

The book is not without its issues. There is little to no plot, with some plot anecdotes here and there. Tyson has taken care of the baby boy he thinks is his son of a former girlfriend, who is a drug addict. He needs Jo to fake a marriage so he can look like a responsible father to the courts. The only thing I see about Tyson being a good father is what the author tells us. Most of the time he hands the kid off to a friend or something, but the kid does like him. The reason Jo "owes" him seems kind of silly, and we really never know why Tyson is rich or what he does as a job. So their are environmental things in the book that are weak if not non-existent. Jo is pretty milk toast. She has the spunky best friend to threaten the love interest when needed. There is also the evil racist mother trope.

If you can look by any of that, the sex scenes, and they are NUMEROUS, are really satisfying. I tried reading this book during my lunch break, in the break room, with people coming and going and trying to talk to me, and I was definitely uncomfortable. Haha.

If anything it was a shameless treat. It was a fast read, and I liked it well enough to share it. It's good for horny readers and not so much for people that like porn with plot. I'd probably read the author again. The writing style and grammar wasn't bad, which is a plus with KU.

I can tell most people are phoning in today at work. My boss talked to me and another coworker about mattresses on sale and labor day deals for like 20 minutes. So yeah, it's that kind of day.

I do at least want to get all my emails done today, which is manageable. I don't like leaving dangling work for the weekend.

I hope everyone has a good Labor Day weekend. I'm looking forward to it. Maybe I'll be productive and get some stuff done.

My FIC RECS - sans Inuyasha and Heroes )
paynesgrey: my little Clara (drwho-missyclara)
Well, fandom-stocking reveals are in, and I feel like such a lucky duck at all the goodies I received. I must thank everyone who filled my stocking this year. I am thoroughly happy with the thought that went into the banners, icons and fics for me! People in fandom are pretty amazing and I'm grateful to be apart of it.

I received several little fics that I feel I need to share. I hope you get a chance to read them and enjoy them as I did.

Doctor Who, Missy/Clara drabble by sharpest_asp. I love this little ficlet with a passion! Missy/Clara are my guilty pleasure.

Doctor Who, Love and Kisses by [livejournal.com profile] kiramaru7. River/Doctor is my OTP. Thank you!

Doctor Who, Passing Fancies - a River/Eight ficlet by muccamukk, OMG MY PAIRING. Loved this look at Eight and River crossing paths. Also, EIGHT!!!!!

Doctor Who, No, Miss Oswald, I Expect You to Die by JohnAmendAll, more delicious Clara/Missy. YOU SPOIL ME!

Doctor Who/Star Wars, Taking Relationship Advice from a Master by annariel, This was a HUGE surprise to me, mainly because I did not ask for Star Wars, and someone even went out of their way to notice that I ship Rey/Kylo Ren, and wrote a Missy instructing Kylo Ren about his attraction to Rey, which is GLORIOUS and CLEVER. And I just love this to bits. AHHHHHH! Perfection.

Agent Carter, A Married Man by [livejournal.com profile] yetanothermask, Peggy/Jarvis goodness that I rarely see because he's married, but this is PERFECT, and I just love their chemistry on the show so them pining for each other just makes a lot of sense to me.

Thank you everyone!

-- Also, I did some of my own from Doctor Who, Twilight, Jessica Jones, Inuyasha, and Marvel fandoms.
I updated them at [livejournal.com profile] paynesgrey_fics if you want to take a look.

All of this really cheered me up. I had sort of a bad day yesterday at work, so this really made up for it reading these stockings.
Wheee!
paynesgrey: Wen the White (drwho-12drink)
We have a bit of downtime at work lately because of the holidays and just general slowness of sales. So I mentioned last post I'd deliver some fic recs. Here they are!

First, I'd like to mention the book I just read, The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer. I wrote a review about it at my Wordpress blog, and I really encourage people to check it out, especially if you like Amanda's music, and even if you're a Neil Gaiman fan. It's got some interesting insight into his personal life. Plus, Amanda talks about her art and music processes which is kind of interesting.

Onto the fic recs! Sorry most of these are Twelfth Doctor and Clara. It's definitely my little obsession lately.

Twelve Nights by lotuskasumi - University AU with 12th Doctor and Clara. Combined two prompts from Tumblr: "can you maybe do a college AU where Clara and the Doctor are the only ones who stayed on campus for Christmas break?" and Clara and the Doctor being professors with a casual relationship who want more.

--This is really sweet and intriguing.

The Wedding Tree by antennapedia. Twelve x Clara. Mature situations. For once an encounter with an advanced civilization was not going to end in war, catastrophe, disaster, or even a pell-mell run toward something or away from something. It was just a lovely thank-you ceremony for the two of them, that's all, followed by a lovely night high up in a tree house. With one bed. Wait.

-- This story really sat with me for awhile after I read it, and then I reread it. The relationship and the imagery is really lovely and wonderfully done.

for you alone i will be weak by jotinf. Twelve x Clara. Mature situations. The Doctor and Clara reunite and carry on.

A continuation of sorts and a growing-old-together fic. Good relationship building, and Clara even sees her mother in the past. The ending is really bittersweet.

And for something completely different...

From the Thick of It...

Eat Our Hearts Alive Malcolm Tucker/Reader. “When is a monster not a monster? Oh, when you love it.” -- Caitlyn Siehl. || Non-linear snippets into the married life of you, the (female) Reader, and your husband, the (not actual) Dark Lord of Downing Street, Malcolm Tucker.
Rated M for language and sensual, or outright sexual, content.

This is such a guilty pleasure fic. But I have a secret kink for Malcolm Tucker so I gobbled this up. It's ongoing and really, really intriguing.

Please enjoy!

Cheers.

I updated my Fic Recs page recently.

First, I added two Heroes stories. One is "Oedipus" by [livejournal.com profile] rtwofan, who does a great job showing the darker side of being in the Petrelli Family. Also, "Inevitable" by [livejournal.com profile] thepandorarose, who has a great library of Angela Petrelli fic.

In the Inuyasha fandom, I read some works by [livejournal.com profile] selinamac. If you're an Inu/Kag fan and don't mind AUs, I'd check out "Of Strings and Kevlar". Very addicting, and the characterizations for an AU are spot on. The Inuyasha fandom needs more fic like this.

My recs are here: http://paynesgrey.livejournal.com/435345.html

The inauguration kicked ass today! I watched it with my co-workers, which was kinda cool. They asked me if I wanted to watch it with them too. Who would have thought? :3
