from [community profile] thefridayfive

1) Do you enjoy your work?

Yes I do, very much! I'm finally doing something that I enjoy and that is actually what the job description entails.

2) Are you overpaid or underpaid for the work you do (or last did)?

I'm a bit underpaid for my job, but given the perks of this place, I don't mind. Plus it's a smaller company. I know I'd make more downtown Chicago in this position, but I'd rather make a little less and work out in the suburbs for a non-corporate company.

3) What one thing do you dislike most about your work?

The internal marketing meetings with the VP of Marketing. She's a notorious micromanager and a habitual delegator. I feel like she doesn't know much about Marketing.

4) What one thing would make your work life happier or more satisfying?

If they offered dental insurance and paid for the portion of health insurance for dependents. i have to pay full percentage for my daughter's health insurance on each paycheck. I'd probably keep a couple hundred dollars a paycheck if they just paid some of the dependency insurance. And FFS, dental insurance is not that expensive if you have enough employees. I guess at least I have vision insurance and damn good insurance for myself, so I'd see that as the only failing.

5) Do you try to fit into your workplace’s culture? What does that entail?

Well yes, but the culture is pretty simple here. We have a healthy balance of work and family life here. Most people don't involve each other in their personal lives outside of work. We're not "friends" outside of working together and everyone understands how important our families are to each other and that sometimes we need to take off or come in later to manage our kids. I respect that. I don't want to be friends with my coworkers even though I do like them. And everyone gets along well in my department, there's no cattiness, and no drama or cliques. It's professional and we still all have crazy humor and relate to each other generationally so it works.

Slow day at work. Not much is expected of me since my boss is gone and our site test went up yesterday. We launched an A/B test on our speedbumpsandhumps.com page and I created the UX and design for our product selector. The developer helped me with JS and some other functions, but most of this is mine. I'm rather proud of it. I hope it's successful. So far since yesterday afternoon we've generated $4K in sales from the test. Not bad!

I finally sold one of my mom's lighthouse paintings on Letgo that she wants to get rid of (no she didn't paint them, just bought them a long time ago with my stepdad). I meet the guy tonight at Home Depot. I'm going to try to talk to him and see if he'll take the other two for $30 if I hold them for him. I just want them gone, and my mom doesn't seem to care what I get for them.

I'm picking up the Buddha head tomorrow and then we head out to a friend's place after that to check in on him. Joe says he's been very depressed lately and has been shutting people out and very down and I told Joe that I was worried about him, so he's agreed to meet us tomorrow to talk. I hope he's okay. I just want him to know that we're here for him.

Back to the grind. I have so much writing and graphics to do. I hope I get the motivation to do some of it. Today would be perfect because no kid to grab me or bang on my computer, and I don't have anything pressing to do for work.

But I'm still exhausted. Tonight I might need to do a tarot reading for a guy through Facebook video. Other than that, I really want to just take it easy this weekend.

Have a good one, everyone! Stay cool if you're experiencing this dreadful heat!

Day 9
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Title: The Flip Side
Fandom: MCU/Avengers
Rating: R/M
Word Count: 23,665
Type: Het(mostly), Romance, Comedy, Adventure
Characters/Pairings: Darcy Lewis, Loki, Thor, Jane Foster, Clint Barton, Odin, ensemble || Darcy/Loki, Darcy/Clint, Clint/Loki, Jane/Thor
Notes/Spoilers: Avengers AU-compliant. There are no spoilers for the Avengers movie. Written for [livejournal.com profile] avengers_bang. Warnings: gore, dubious consent, possession, manipulation, sexual situations

FFnet

Summary: In punishment for his crimes, Odin destroys Loki's body to imprison his soul. After a narrow escape, Loki comes to Midgard and plans his revenge by taking over the body of Jane's assistant, Darcy Lewis. The girl who loves tasers, however, does not make things easy for him.

I definitely think this defines me as a creator. Not just the praise for this fic that I've received, but how the story came together for me with a really satisfied ending.

Title: Silence for Naught
Fandom: GALS!(manga)/Super GALS!(anime) by Mihona Fujii
Genre: Romance/Angst
Rating: T
Summary: Rei tries to keep his feelings hidden from Ran, but when she clues in, she predicts a storm brewing among her group of friends, and she can't seem to stop wondering if she feels the same. RanxRei. Takes place around Volume 6.

FFnet URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3095492/14/
MMO URL: http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/127420

Hands down my favorite fanfiction that I've ever written. It's a rare fandom, so the intention behind this fic was to "FIX" what I did not like in the original story and what the original creator intended. I didn't care who agreed with me or not, and the canon purists amused me when they flamed me. However, in turn I did get a lot of feedback on this fic from like-minded people, especially from other countries, and that they enjoy my fic. One person said they printed it out which really made my day. I feel like I struggle with the romance genre and this story really helped with that challenge.

***

Title: Desperately Seeking Sessmom
Fandom: Inuyasha
Genre: Humor
Rating: Gen
Summary: Ryouji, the son of Ryoukotssei, is searching desperately for his mother, and he thinks that the Lady of the West, Sesshoumaru's mother, is that person.

AO3 | FFnet

It was really hard for me to pick a third one, but between my two oldest fandoms, Inuyasha and Heroes, this is the fic that I probably like the best because it showed my writing chops writing an original character that could stand on his own. It proved to me that I could get more into my own original writing and ideas. Plus, it helped me with humor writing which can be hard for me and sometimes I have to be in the right mood.

Some Recs

[community profile] het_bigbang  reveals are out! Both of my artists got back to me about my artwork. The Mad Max author really liked it, and I am pleased. I'm going to pimp their works here because I DID read them to do the art and found them really good.

[Mad Max] My Blue Bucket of Gold by ninety6tears
Rated Explicit. Max/Furiosa, canon divergent.
Max returns to the Citadel to arrange an exchange of favors, but his end of a deal with Furiosa, as well as rising concern for the Dag’s struggles, proves to be much more than he bargained for. New beginnings promise healing, but some old habits are hard to wash out.

[Iron Man Movies] the bolder the lip by sandyk
Rated Explicit. Tony/Pepper, AU after Iron Man 2
Pepper said yes to going to Venice. The secret of Tony's success was to tell Pepper the truth, always.

And the story that wasn't finished but I did art for anyway has at least the first chapter up.

[Riverdale] Jughead and Betty's Epic Detour by Browneyesparker
Rated T. Betty/Jughead. AU
Jughead and Betty take the road trip that Archie and Jughead were supposed to take together. Title taken from "Roger and Amy's Epic Detour" by Morgan Matson but that's as far as it goes. Rated T.

I read a really good and HOT fic on KU yesterday. I haven't updated on Goodreads yet because there are two more stories in there to read as a bonus, but the fic was really good if you're into erotica and want something decent to read to get your jollies off. I'm not usually into romance/erotica but I liked the premise and I like to see what sells out there.

It's called: So. Toxic: a virgin, fake marriage by Kelley Harvey.

I have a small shameless addiction to fake marriage / marriage of convenience set ups and I always like to see how they play out. Even as a bonus, these characters are reunited childhood friends which is always adorable IMO. The pacing in this story is pretty fast, and the two characters are likable, even the "bad boy". The writing style is light and amusing, but no where near the juvenile ways of EL James. It can be contemporary at times, but the writing is done well enough that I didn't find it bad or obnoxious. The voice seemed modern enough and fit the characters, like I could picture it.

The book is not without its issues. There is little to no plot, with some plot anecdotes here and there. Tyson has taken care of the baby boy he thinks is his son of a former girlfriend, who is a drug addict. He needs Jo to fake a marriage so he can look like a responsible father to the courts. The only thing I see about Tyson being a good father is what the author tells us. Most of the time he hands the kid off to a friend or something, but the kid does like him. The reason Jo "owes" him seems kind of silly, and we really never know why Tyson is rich or what he does as a job. So their are environmental things in the book that are weak if not non-existent. Jo is pretty milk toast. She has the spunky best friend to threaten the love interest when needed. There is also the evil racist mother trope.

If you can look by any of that, the sex scenes, and they are NUMEROUS, are really satisfying. I tried reading this book during my lunch break, in the break room, with people coming and going and trying to talk to me, and I was definitely uncomfortable. Haha.

If anything it was a shameless treat. It was a fast read, and I liked it well enough to share it. It's good for horny readers and not so much for people that like porn with plot. I'd probably read the author again. The writing style and grammar wasn't bad, which is a plus with KU.

I can tell most people are phoning in today at work. My boss talked to me and another coworker about mattresses on sale and labor day deals for like 20 minutes. So yeah, it's that kind of day.

I do at least want to get all my emails done today, which is manageable. I don't like leaving dangling work for the weekend.

I hope everyone has a good Labor Day weekend. I'm looking forward to it. Maybe I'll be productive and get some stuff done.

paynesgrey: Avatar - DRAW HARDER! // please tell me if you made this (draw)
I haven't done commissions in FOREVER, but I'm kind of desperate at the moment. I have some bills coming up and groceries are needed, as well as savings for the upcoming arrival of the baby, and instead of just asking for money, I prefer to give something for them. The Gods gave me an art talent after all, so...

Keep in mind, I AM seven months pregnant, so soon I won't be able to do much but sit on my butt anyway, so I figured this was a good time.
